Ready to shift gears into mining without starting from scratch? We’re looking for a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic who knows European trucks inside and out. This is your chance to leave the dealer workshop behind and bring your diagnostic skills to the Pilbara, working on a high-spec fleet of Volvo-based Mobile Processing Units (MPUs). If you’re a process-driven tradesperson who values precision and wants to join a team that does things right, this is the role to launch your FIFO career.

Company Overview

At Dyno Nobel, we are global leaders in commercial explosives, delivering innovative blasting solutions for the mining industry. We support major operations like Fortescue Metals Group across multiple Pilbara sites. Our people vision is clear: to build safe, inclusive, and high-performing teams. We invest in top-tier OEM tooling and technology, and we invest equally in our people, providing a pathway for skilled trades to enter the mining sector with a trusted brand.

 Key Responsibilities

You’ll be the expert ensuring our critical fleet remains safe, compliant, and operational. Your core focus will be:

  • Performing planned and corrective maintenance on specialized FM 8×4 Volvo MPU trucks, which combine heavy vehicle mechanics with advanced ammonium nitrate manufacturing technology.
  • Conducting precise diagnostic fault-finding using dealer-grade tooling and systems to resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues efficiently.
  • Ensuring all work is completed to the highest standard of safety and compliance, following strict procedures in a regulated environment.
  • Maintaining detailed records in our computerised maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Working collaboratively within the workshop team to support continuous improvement and share knowledge on these unique assets.

Qualifications

We are seeking a qualified tradesperson with a solid foundation in European heavy vehicles. You will bring:

  • A formal Heavy Vehicle Mechanic trade qualification (Auto Electrical or Dual Trade credentials are a significant bonus).
  • Proven hands-on experience with European truck brands such as Volvo, Scania, Mercedes, or MAN.
  • Strong diagnostic, fault-finding, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic circuitry and control systems.
  • Basic computer literacy; experience with a CMMS is advantageous.
  • The ability to obtain a Dangerous Goods Security Clearance.
  • A HR Licence is beneficial but not essential.
  • Above all, a commitment to safety, a collaborative mindset, and a desire to contribute to a high-performance culture.

 Benefits and Perks

We offer a comprehensive package designed for your career growth and well-being:

  •  $151,000 base salary + Superannuation + a $20,000 Market Allowance + performance-based bonuses.
  •  This role is designed for skilled tradespeople new to the mining sector, with full training provided on our specific equipment.
  • An 8 days on, 6 days off roster flying from Perth to comfortable, well-equipped site camps with recreational facilities.
  •  18 weeks paid parental leave for primary carers, superannuation paid on unpaid leave, and options to purchase additional annual leave.
  • Ongoing training and clear pathways for career progression through structured development reviews.
  •  Salary packaging, confidential employee assistance programs, mental health support, and corporate discounts.
