Where You’ll Be Working

Our Mitchell laundry is a focused, well-organized operation supporting three hotels in Canberra. We run a tight schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are full production days from 6am to 4pm, while Thursdays are reserved for cleaning and light maintenance. We don’t operate on public holidays, shifting to alternate days like Tuesday when needed. Nine staff are rostered each production day, plus a delivery driver, so you’ll be leading a solid team in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Hands-on management of daily operations: You’ll be on the floor making sure every step—washing, drying, ironing, folding, and distribution—runs smoothly and meets quality standards.
  • Leading and mentoring your team: You’ll train, guide, and manage laundry staff, making sure everyone understands their roles and follows company policies.
  • Managing inventory: You’ll keep track of laundry consumables, spare parts, and equipment, ordering replacements before you run out.
  • Scheduling and timesheets: You’ll handle staff shifts, finalize timesheets, and ensure compliance with awards and company policies.
  • Maintaining equipment: You’ll monitor performance, schedule regular maintenance, and handle basic troubleshooting to prevent downtime.
  • Ensuring health and safety: You’ll manage WHS requirements, risk assessments, incident reporting, evacuation procedures, and chemical handling compliance. You’ll make sure staff are trained and safe.
  • Addressing customer issues: When problems come up, you’ll handle them quickly and professionally to keep satisfaction high.
  • Keeping the facility organized: Cleanliness and order in the laundry matter—you’ll make sure everything is where it should be.
  • Managing staffing requirements: This includes recruitment, training, performance management, and building a strong team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Laundry Manager or similar role. You know how a commercial laundry runs and what it takes to keep it moving.
  • Strong knowledge of laundry equipment: Operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. When something breaks, you should know what to check first.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills. You’ll be managing a team, so clear direction and follow-through are essential.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure. Laundry days can get busy, and you’ll need to prioritize.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations related to laundry operations, including chemical handling.
  • Physical stamina to be on your feet for extended periods and handle the demands of the role.
  • Flexibility to work full-time hours over four longer days per week generally Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
  • First Aid Certificate is required.
  • Certification in laundry operations is a plus, but not mandatory if you have the experience.

What We Value

We’re looking for someone who takes initiative. If you see a way to improve a process, streamline a workflow, or bring in better technology, we want you to speak up. Reliability matters we need a manager who shows up, leads by example, and keeps things running even when things get hectic. A commitment to excellence means you don’t let subpar work leave the facility. If that sounds like you, you’ll fit right in.

What You’ll Get

  • A full-time role with a consistent four-day weekly schedule.
  • A competitive hourly wage of $15.
  • The chance to lead a dedicated team in a focused, well-run operation.
  • Hands-on work where you’re not just managing from an office you’re part of the action.
