Key Responsibilities
You will be a key member of the fabrication team, with duties focused on precision and preparation:
- Accurately interpret engineering drawings and specifications to measure, mark, and lay out steel plates and structural components for tank assembly.
- Operate specialized hand tools and machinery (such as plate shears, roll benders, and cutting torches) to cut and shape materials to exact dimensions.
- Skillfully assemble and fit-up steel plates, shells, and heads for storage tanks, ensuring proper alignment, gap consistency, and readiness for welding.
- Apply knowledge of standard fit-up procedures, including the use of jigs, clamps, and alignment tools to prepare joints for final welding.
- Safely handle and maneuver heavy plate materials using appropriate lifting techniques and equipment like overhead cranes.
- Maintain all hand tools, gauges, and fitting equipment, reporting any defects to ensure a safe and efficient worksite.
- Work closely with welders and supervisors to ensure all fitted structures meet strict quality and safety standards before proceeding.
Qualifications
This role values proven, hands-on experience above formal education. The ideal candidate must have:
- A minimum of 5 years of direct, hands-on experience as a Fitter, Fabricator, or similar role in heavy steel construction, specifically with storage tanks or pressure vessels.
- Demonstrable experience in tank fitting, including plate layout, shell assembly, and nozzle installation.
- Practical knowledge in the safe operation and handling of welding machines and related fitting equipment is required.
- No minimum educational attainment is required; however, relevant vocational training or certification is an advantage.
- Must possess a complete and valid set of personal documents, including:
- Voter’s ID
- PSA Birth Certificate
- Local Birth Record
- UMID or National ID
- Proof of updated SSS Contributions
- Physical fitness for demanding manual labor in various weather conditions and a strong commitment to workplace safety protocols.
