Key Responsibilities

Depending on the program, your role will involve providing critical support through mentorship and advocacy. Key duties include:

  • For the ‘Staying on Track’ Youth Justice Program: Working in partnership with Youth Justice and families to provide practical, one-on-one mentoring that supports a young person’s successful reintegration into the community, helps reduce reoffending, and assists them in meeting their legal obligations.
  • For the ‘Live Long, Live Strong’ Youth Program: Facilitating culturally appropriate counselling and support to help young people aged 10-25 build resilience and overcome challenges like bullying, family conflict, and emotional distress through face-to-face, outreach, and telehealth engagements.
  • Building trusting, respectful relationships with young people, creating a safe space for them to share and grow.
  • Advocating for young people’s needs and supporting them to connect with essential services and programs.
  • Developing and supporting the implementation of individual plans that empower young people to make positive choices for their future.
  • Maintaining professional documentation and participating in case reviews and team meetings.

Qualifications

These are identified positions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons, as permitted under Sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991).

We are looking for individuals who are committed to cultural safety and trauma-informed practice. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum Certificate IV or Diploma in Counselling, Youth Work, Community Services, Case Management, or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated experience in youth mentoring, support, social and emotional wellbeing work, or case management.
  • The ability to build genuine rapport and respond safely and calmly to critical situations with young people at risk.
  • Strong relationship-building skills grounded in respect, collaboration, and inclusivity.
  • A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check), a valid Driver’s Licence, and a willingness to undergo ongoing professional development and supervision.
  • Experience working within a First Nations community-controlled organisation is highly regarded.
